OUR WORD VIEW – Word of the Week = SUN
A collaborative BLOG between two friends (me and my friend Barbara Pagnotti) who’s paths were separated for 20 years and have found one another once again online. Both share a love of the ocean, nature and of course photography! A fondness for inspirational sayings has sparked this project. Each Sunday we will post the “WORD OF THE WEEK” and our individual interpretation of the word via two separate photos on our blog “OUR WORD VIEW”! Join our FLICKR group and add your photo interpretation of the word and join in the discussion! Our Word View – FLICKR Group
4/8/12 Word of the Week = SUN
|Little Gasparilla Island, Gulf Coast, Florida
I took this picture a number of years ago when my husband and I were vacationing on Little Gasparilla Island in Florida. It is a wonderful island on the Gulf Coast that you can only get to by boat. There is no motorized transportation on the island accept via golf cart. There are also no commercial ventures on the island. It is the most wonderful place to go and completely decompress from the world. The home we rented for a number of years was the second one back from the beach. However it was set up on pillars about 20 feet in the air and we were above the cottage in front of us and had a great view of the ocean. The breezes were phenomenal! There were lanais across the entire front and back of the house. The sliders on both ends of the house pushed back into the walls so you could open the house up completely to the breezes! It was like living in a tree fort! We almost never ran the air conditioning. In the front lanai they even had a hammock! That was my husband’s landing pad each and every evening after having his beer and cigar! We spent each day walking the beach searching for shells and shark teeth. One hold end of the Island for miles was a bird sanctuary and totally undeveloped! I realize for some people this would be much too much down time. But when you live a chaotic existence to be able to sit, lounge, sleep and not be on anyone’s timetable for us was sheer heaven! Needless to say the highlight of each of my days was to run down to the beach at dusk and take pictures of the sunset. The above shot is of one of those beautiful scenes! The colors never ceased to amaze me! Every evening was different. This particular shot the rings around the sun, the cast of red in the sky and on the water, and the reflection of the sun on the sand was sheer perfection!
