My Baked Ziti
This is my go to dish whenever I am having a large crowd and need to throw something together that is relatively quick, easy, can be prepped ahead of time then frozen. Just as good as lasagna but so much easier to put together and everyone seems to just love it! Another bonus is it’s great as a leftover for a day or two!
Ingredients: (for one 9×11 pan)
- 1 lb lean Hamburg
- 1 pkg sausage patties around 2 or 3 (if you don’t have sausage 1 tsp fennel seed)
- 1 onion (Diced)
- 3 Garlic cloves (Minced) (I like lots – however use how many you like)
- Large jar of spaghetti sauce. Whichever you prefer. I use Prego with veggie of some sort.
- 1 lb Ziti or whatever pasta you prefer
- 2 C shredded Mozzarella
- Can of Parmesan/Romano Cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp oregano
Dice onion, mince garlic. Put a pan of water on to cook pasta. Saute onion until turning soft. Add garlic and cook for one minute. Add hamburg, sausage, salt, pepper, basil, oregano and cook stirring occasionally. Once cooked through add to Spaghetti Sauce. *If serving Ziti same day heat sauce if not just put Baked Ziti together once pasta is done.
To put together simply strain Ziti. Then mix Ziti with sauce. Pour in a good amount of Parmesan/Romano Cheese, throw in approximately 1 1/2 C shredded Mozzarella. Stir everything together and pour into 9×11 pan. Sprinkle remaining Mozzarella on top. Cover in foil and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes if already warm.
**If cooking after thawing out bake for an hour! Take foil off for last 5 minutes.
